Nepalese-run businesses and societies across the UK are continuing to raise money for people affected by the 26 August floods on the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers, which the Nepal authorities say killed 1,455 people, with 5,285 missing as of 3 October.
Slough Nepalese Society UK, a registered charity, is holding a Dashain and Tihar Charity Dinner on Friday 30 October, from 5pm to 11pm at Slough Irish Club, Sheehy Way, SL2 5SS. According to the society's event page, all funds go to communities and victims of the flash floods. Tickets cost £25 for those aged 12 and over, £15 for ages 6 to 11, and children aged five and under are free. Dinner is by Mama's Hounslow.
Elsewhere, Gurkha Fire in Chatham passed £2,000 on a £1,000 JustGiving target within two days, according to a local report from 7 September. It planned a set-menu thali night on 15 September. Owner Keshav Kandel said: "It's really melted our hearts the way people are supporting us." In Lerwick, Gurkha Kitchen raised more than £2,000 and gave NPR 500,000 to the Prime Minister's Disaster Relief Fund, according to a report published 12 October. Its owner, Yanu Gurung, said: "Living so far away from Nepal, we could not do much."
Nepalese British Community UK (NBC-UK) has also run a flood appeal since late August. The page shows no total raised. Final totals for the Chatham and Slough events are not yet published. The Slough details come from the organiser's own page and have not been independently confirmed.
