London Indra Jatra in its full form is being celebrated for the very first time in the UK as Ta: Newah Muna on the occasion of 25th Anniversary of Pasa Puchah Guthi UK—a historic moment for the Newah community, and a proud reflection of our cultural heritage.
This Jatra brings together all five branches across the UK in a beautiful union, from Aldershot to Edinburgh, to celebrate the sun, the summer, and the spirit of togetherness.
Inspired by the iconic Indra Jatra of Kathmandu, this festival honours the gods of our shared traditions—Indra, Bhairav, Kumari, and Ganesha—through a colourful chariot procession, masked dances, Dhime drums, and sacred rituals. It is a celebration that intertwines Hinduism and Buddhism, devotion and dance, and diaspora and homeland.
The reflection of Kathmandu, London Indra Jatra is more than a festival; it is a cultural bridge, and a legacy in the making. We plan to celebrate this once every two years, so that each time we gather, it becomes a moment to remember, a tradition to carry forward, and a gift to the next generation.
