JANAKPURDHAM, NEPAL – A passenger train operated by Nepal Railways collided with a car this morning, causing minor injuries to the car's three occupants and significant damage to the vehicle. The accident took place at approximately 8:30 AM at a railway crossing near Thapa Chowk in the Brahmapuri area of Janakpurdham.
The train was traveling on its route from Pipradhi Station in Mahottari to Janakpurdham when it hit the car, which had the license plate number Bagmati Province 01-025Cha 1290. According to police spokesperson Barun Bahadur Singh, a preliminary report indicates that the car’s driver attempted to cross the railway tracks, but was unable to clear the crossing in time as the train approached.
Local residents who witnessed the crash reported hearing a loud noise as the train made contact with the vehicle. Fortunately, all three people inside the car were able to escape with only minor injuries, while the front of the car was heavily damaged.
Following the collision, train services on the route were temporarily stopped to allow police and railway officials to investigate the scene and clear the tracks. The car was removed from the railway line, and service has since resumed. The District Police Office has confirmed that an official investigation into the full circumstances of the accident is still underway. (RSS)
