HETAUDA — Police in Makwanpur have launched a full-scale investigation and a search operation to recover a significant quantity of property looted from government offices in Hetauda during the recent 'Gen-Z' protests. While some items have been successfully retrieved, police officials are actively scrutinising a vast amount of evidence to identify those responsible for the widespread vandalism and theft.
The District Police Office confirmed that its personnel are meticulously reviewing CCTV footage and social media videos posted during the unrest, which explicitly show individuals removing items from various government premises. The operation has already resulted in the recovery of several items, including computers, printers, chairs, and photocopy machines, all of which have been returned to their respective offices.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Shyamu Aryal provided a detailed list of the recovered property, which was secured following a search operation. This includes four computers, two cupboards, three printers, a photocopier, six chairs, a refrigerator, 31 sets of speakers, a fan, and a hard disk.
Several ministries have begun the process of cataloguing their losses and receiving the retrieved items. The Ministry of Social Development of the Province Government, for instance, has been handed back three computers, a laptop, several chairs, and an induction hob. Similarly, the Health Ministry’s looted property, which included a printer, a rack, three chairs, and an electronic kettle, has been successfully returned.
The protests, which caused considerable physical damage to buildings and infrastructure, have left various government offices and ministries without essential property. Authorities continue to work to restore order and recover the remaining missing items while pursuing those who engaged in criminal acts during the unrest.
