Kathmandu – Nepal’s Deputy Speaker, Indira Rana, has honoured Bhim Saru Magar, Mayor of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough in the United Kingdom, in Kathmandu.
During his visit to Nepal, Mayor Magar was felicitated by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mrs Rana. While honouring him, Deputy Speaker Rana congratulated Magar for winning the hearts of the British people and rising to the prestigious position of Mayor. She remarked that his achievement was a matter of pride for all Nepalis and expressed her hope that he would continue to play an effective role in making council services more inclusive and efficient for all communities and groups in the Borough.
The ceremony was attended by Secretary of the House of Representatives Harkaraj Rai, Joint Secretary and spokesperson of the Federal Parliament Secretariat Ekram Giri, Under Secretary Om Bahadur Karki, and other officials.
Born in Chandraban, Chidipani (currently Mathagadhi Rural Municipality–1) of Palpa district, Saru completed his school education from Saubhagya Secondary School. While studying for a Bachelor’s degree at Tribhuvan Multiple Campus, Palpa, he joined the British Army in 1993. Having served for nearly three decades, he retired as a Garrison Engineer of the Royal Engineers.
A well-known community leader, Saru also serves as the President of the British Gurkha Veterans Association. Since 2017, he has been running an embroidery business in the UK.
