NRNA UK Pledges Rs 5 Crore for Nepal Flood Victims as London Embassy Events Postponed

As catastrophic flash floods tore through Nepal's Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts on Wednesday, the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) announced an immediate Rs 5 crore (roughly £240,000 at current exchange rates) relief package for rescue, healthcare and reconstruction in the affected areas.

In London, the Embassy of Nepal postponed a scheduled Buddha statue installation ceremony because of the disaster back home. For the UK's Nepali diaspora — many of whom have family, ancestral land or remittance-dependent relatives in the hills north of Kathmandu — this is a story that lands close to home even from thousands of miles away. It also puts NRNA UK's mobilising capacity and fundraising transparency under community scrutiny: how the money is disbursed, how quickly, and to whom, will shape trust in diaspora institutions for months to come. Expect local UK chapters to launch parallel fundraising drives at temples, community centres and the Nepali Mela festival (Kempton Park, 30 August), turning a distant disaster into a test of diaspora solidarity and organisational credibility
