New leadership elected at Britain Nepal Chamber of Commerce

London — The Britain Nepal Chamber of Commerce (BNCC) has elected a new leadership team following its Annual General Meeting held on Friday at the Nepali Embassy in London.

Travel entrepreneur Biraj Bhatta was unanimously elected as the new Chairman of the Chamber. He previously served as Vice-President.

Two Vice-Chairs were appointed: Indra Giri and Kamal Paudel, while Rajendra Shrestha was elected as Secretary.

The newly elected executive committee members are Prabhu Neupane, Krishna Bhatta, Santosh Mandal, Nadia Williams, Anjani Phuyal, Prakash Dhungana, Anil Neupane, Mosaud Angiz, BP Khanal, Basanta Nepal, Bikash Nepal, and Campbell Mitchell.

Steve Buckley was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber.

Addressing the meeting, BNCC Patron and Acting Ambassador of Nepal to the UK, Bipin Duwadi, congratulated the newly elected committee and thanked the outgoing leadership for its service.

He highlighted the importance of UK–Nepal trade and described Nepal as a strong and attractive destination for foreign investment. Ambassador Duwadi confirmed that the Nepali Embassy in London is working closely with BNCC to promote trade and investment opportunities, and emphasised the role of the Nepali diaspora in supporting Nepal’s economic development through business and investment.

Focus on investment, trade mission, and policy advocacy

Newly elected Chairman Biraj Bhatta said BNCC would work to engage more Nepali businesses across the UK and continue its efforts to increase investment in Nepal.

He announced plans to lead a trade mission to Nepal in October 2026 and said the Chamber would continue lobbying for the removal of the double taxation system, which remains a major concern for investors.

Bhatta reaffirmed BNCC’s commitment to working closely with the Nepal Government, the Nepali Embassy in London, and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) to support the interests of Nepal and Nepali businesses. He also thanked BNCC members and supporters for their continued cooperation.

Reflections from outgoing leadership

Following the AGM, a dinner reception was held at the Embassy Hall. Outgoing Chairman Kapil Rijal said BNCC was established to promote cooperation and mutual support among businesses, and expressed confidence that the new leadership would take the organisation forward.

Founding member Mahanta Shrestha, Honorary President Adam Gilchrist, and several other business figures also shared their views during the discussion.
