Kathmandu – Nepali community around the world are celebrating Dashain – tenth day of the Bijaya Dashami festival- on Thursday (2nd of October).
The festival – observed by Hindus by worshipping Goddess Durga celebrates the victory of good over evil. Elders put jamara and tika to their juniors and bless them. People wear best attires and eat delicious foods including sel roti during the festival.
In a message, President Ramchandra Paudel extended his best wishes for stability, good governance, and prosperity in the country on the occasion of Vijaya Dashami 2082 BS.
President Paudel conveyed his greetings for happiness, peace, prosperity, and continuous progress to all Nepali brothers and sisters, both at home and abroad.
The Head of State said, "On the day of Vijaya Dashami, a symbol of the victory of truth, righteousness, and justice, we receive blessings, tika, and jamara from our respected elders. I pray to Goddess Durga for harmony, goodwill, and the welfare of the nation.”
PM Karki not to receive tika this year
Meanwhile, Prime Minister of the interim government, Mrs Sushila Karki, has said she will not or offer the ritualistic 'Dashain tika' this year on the occasion of Bada Dashain.
Although Bada Dashain is a festival celebrated with joy and enthusiasm, this year there will be no Tika ceremony as the painful memory of young lives lost and many injured during the Gen-Z movement is still fresh, Prime Minister Karki’s Secretariat said.
The worship of Sri Durga Bhawani at Dasainghars over nine days concludes formally on the 10th day of the 10-day-long Dashain festival, also known as Bijaya Dashami after the Abhishekh or sprinkling of holy water takes place marking the beginning of 'tika'.
Tika and jamara are considered symbolizing blessings from the goddess Nawa Durga and they signify prosperity, RSS news agency reported.
