Kathmandu - Nepal Police personnel are looking to recover a passport snatched away by a monkey.
According to reports, an Australian visiting Nepal reported Neal Police that his bag containing important documents including his passport was snatched away by a monkey.
He told the police that the monkey grabbed the passport from the roof of a vehicle near the bungee jump site in western district of Parbat and ran off towards the cliff. Another Nepali tourist, who had kept his passport in the same bag, also lost it to the monkey.
After being informed about the incident, police were deployed to search for the missing passports, said Parbat Police Chief DSP Vijay Yadav. He said that despite searches on Saturday and Sunday, the passports have not been found.
“They were apparently on their way to Muktinath and had stopped at Kusma for bungee jumping,” he explained. “The bag had been placed on top of the vehicle. When they returned, the bag was gone, and they reported that a monkey had taken it.”
Teams from the Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force were mobilized for the search. “Yesterday, we sent a team of seven officers led by a sub-inspector. Today, the Armed Police also joined the effort,” Yadav said. “But it hasn’t been found. The area is full of cliffs and dense forest, making it very difficult to access.”
As the bag containing the passports has not been recovered, the tourists have filed an official complaint with the police. The search operation is still ongoing. “We are doing everything we can to find it,” DSP Yadav added. “If it cannot be recovered, they will have to apply for new passports through the proper process.
