Nepal govt recalls 11 ambassadors

Kathmandu – The interim government has recalled 11 Nepali ambassadors from various countries.

 A Cabinet meeting on Thursday made the decision to recall the envoys.

“Ambassadors to China, Germany, Israel, Malaysia, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Japan have been recalled with instructions to return to Nepal by November 6,” said spokesperson of the government and Minister for Communication and Information Technology. Jagadish Kharel.

The ambassadors recalled include Krishna Prasad Oli (China), Shail Rupakheti (Germany), Dhan Prasad Pandit (Israel), Netra Prasad Timsina (Malaysia), Ramesh Chandra Paudel (Qatar), Jang Bahadur Chauhan (Russia), Naresh Bikram Dhakal (Saudi Arabia), Shanil Nepal (Spain), Chandra Kumar Ghimire (United Kingdom), Lok Darshan Regmi (United States), and Durga Bahadur Subedi (Japan).

Subedi, a career diplomat, had also served as Nepal’s envoy to the UK.

In a snap opinion poll conducted by ekantipur.com today, nearly 55 percent of the respondents said the interim government’s decision to recall envoys was ill-timed. Only 18 percent said it was a right decision.
