Nepal Elected ECOSOC President

Nepal has been elected the President of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

Nepal assumed the global position on Thursday.

Calling it a “historic moment” for the country, Nepal’s Ambassador to the UN, Lok Bahadur Thapa, highlighted the nation’s long-standing commitment to multilateralism.

Thapa stated that his presidency will follow the motto “Delivering Better,” emphasizing stronger partnerships and multilateral efforts to implement global initiatives, including the 2030 Agenda adopted 15 years ago.

“Delivering better is not an option — it is an imperative. It is our pathway to restoring trust in multilateralism, bridging divides, empowering the most vulnerable, and translating commitments into action,” Thapa said.

Amar Bendjama (Algeria), Héctor Gómez Hernández (Spain), Wellington Darío Bencosme Castaños (Dominican Republic), and Paruyr Hovhannisyan (Armenia) were elected vice-presidents of ECOSOC for the upcoming year.
