Monsoon Rains Disrupt Nine Major Highways Across Nepal

KATHMANDU, Nepal —Continuous rainfall has caused widespread disruption to at least nine major highways across the country, Nepal Police have reported. The disruptions are a result of landslides and floods triggered by the monsoon downpours.

Several key routes are completely blocked, including the Koshi Highway at Bhotkhola in Sankhuwasabha district, the bridge connecting Nepal and China in Rasuwa district, the Pasang Lhamu Highway in Rasuwa, and the Arniko Highway in Sindhupalchowk district.

Similarly, the Kaligandaki Corridor in Baglung district, the Beni-Darbang road in Myagdi, the Jajarkot road in Rukum Paschim, the Bheri Corridor in Dolpa, and the Gokuleshwor-Darchula road in Darchula have all come to a complete standstill due to the monsoon-induced disasters.

In some areas, however, traffic is partially resuming. Police have confirmed that several other highways and roads, which were also affected by landslides and floods, are now operating on a one-way basis. These include the Mid-Hill Highway in Terahthum district, the Uttargaya road and Pasang Lhamu Highway in Rasuwa, and the Prithivi Highway in Tanahu.

The Kaligandaki Corridor towards Nawalparasi East, the Prithivi Highway in the Rapti Highway section in Dang, and the Saljhandi-Dhorpatan road in Arghakhanchi are also currently open for one-way traffic.
