Major changes have taken place in Nepal: PM Karki

Kathmandu : Prime Minister of the interim government, Mrs Sushila Karki, has said major changes have taken place in Nepal following last month’s Gen Z protests.

Addressing a virtual meeting with the heads and representatives of Nepali diplomatic missions abroad on Wednesday, premier Karki instructed Nepali diplomats to inform that the concerned countries and stakeholders about the context and implications of the political changes  that have taken place in Nepal.

Prime Minister Karki also called upon Nepali diplomats to coordinate necessary measures to garner the support of foreign governments and organizations  in the context of the upcoming elections slated for March 5, 2026.     

Referring to the decline in tourism and other activities since the September 8 and 9 protests, she instructed Nepali diplomats and agencies to inform people that Nepal is now back to normal, open and economic activities have resumed.     

During the address, Prime Minister Karki emphasized the need to widely publicize the matter to all relevant locations, all governments and stakeholders soon.     

On a different note, the Prime Minister urged the Chief of Missions to provide efficient, fast and technology-friendly services to address the expectations of millions of Nepalis living abroad since the major recent change in the country. She also urged for necessary publicity regarding the Physical Infrastructure Reconstruction Fund set up by the government to garner financial support for much-needed reconstruction of the country, RSS news agency reported.

President Ram Chandra Paudel had appointed Mrs Karki, as the first female head of the government of Nepal, after then premier K P Sharma Oli resigned from his post last month amidst unprecedented protests and violence.
