KATHMANDU, Nepal – In a sweeping anti-gang operation, Kathmandu police arrested over 47 individuals, including notorious gang leader Chakre Milan, in coordinated raids across Thamel and Maharajgunj. The crackdown targeted criminal activities such as extortion, public disturbances, and illegal possession of weapons.
Chakre Milan was apprehended from Hotel Sambala in Maharajgunj on Thursday night. Police recovered two khukuris and several iron rods from a vehicle associated with his group. The suspects claimed the weapons were for personal security.
The operation was launched following a viral video showing Milan’s convoy blocking public roads, prompting increased police surveillance. The Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office and District Police Range conducted the arrests with support from senior officials, including SSP Bishwo Adhikari.
Among those arrested was Yuvraj Gurung, alias Sanu Bhai, taken into custody from a Thamel restaurant on July 31 after being involved in a brawl. He is known to be an associate of the late gangster Kumar Shrestha “Ghaite.”
According to AIG Tek Bahadur Tamang, the operation was prompted by growing complaints of criminal activities in Kathmandu’s nightlife sector. Police are currently screening the detainees and continuing investigations into organized crime networks.
