The International Cricket Council has formally sanctioned the third Nepal Premier League (NPL), the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) said in a press release on Friday 16 October. The tournament runs from 26 October to 21 November 2026. Nepal News reported on 21 October that the ICC has granted List A T20 status to all matches of the edition, at Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur; the Kathmandu Post's report of the sanction did not itself confirm the venue, so the venue and the "List A" label rest on a single report and should be treated as not yet independently verified.
CAN Secretary Paras Khadka had earlier said he believed approval "will be decided soon". CAN said the sanction "will significantly contribute to the development, expansion, and international profile" of domestic cricket. The sources reviewed do not explain the reason for the delay, the participating teams, or broadcast arrangements.
Why it matters: recognised status gives players' performances official standing and strengthens the league's credibility with sponsors and overseas players. For UK Nepalese cricket supporters, it offers a rare high-profile fixture list during the Tihar season. Watch for the official ICC wording and team lists before the opening match.
