Hyatt Regency Kathmandu expected to reopen in 2026

Kathmandu - The Hyatt Regency in Kathmandu has stated that it will reopen after reconstruction, hopefully in 2026.

The leading hotel had suffered extensive damage in Kathmandu during September 8-9 Gen Z protests.

In a statement, the hotel's executive director, Suresh Lal Shrestha, said that the damage caused by the protests was being assessed and that it would reopen after reconstruction.

The hotel said the upgrade and reconstruction would take at least a year.

"During the protest, vandalism, looting and arson activities at the hotel caused extensive damage to the overall structure of the hotel, including guest rooms, offices, reception, lobby, restaurant, banquet hall, and chaitya. The hotel has been completely closed since then," the statement said.

"We are committed to upgrading and reconstructing the hotel after a complete assessment of the damage and bringing it back into operation as soon as possible with expanded and excellent services."

In the statement, the hotel expressed gratitude for Prime Minister Sushila Karki and Finance Minister Rameshore Prasad Khanal's assurances that the government would provide necessary support regarding the damage to the hotel.

The hotel has also expressed its commitment to contributing to the country's economic development by increasing the government's revenue sources in the coming days and operating with a firm determination further to elevate Nepal's image in the tourism sector.
