Eight more bodies were recovered on Thursday 1 October from the avalanche that struck Mount Himlung (7,126 metres) in Manang district on 27 September, taking the reported toll to 15, with one person still missing (Nepal News, 1 October). Early reports said those killed or missing were all Nepali nationals preparing a base camp for foreign clients ahead of the autumn climbing season. The avalanche came amid heavy rain that caused flooding and landslides in Manang; the disaster agency reported 21 further deaths and five missing elsewhere in Nepal between 25 and 28 September (AP, 28 September).

The episode underlines the risks borne by support workers, who are rarely the face of mountaineering coverage. Still unclear: the final toll, the circumstances of the camp's siting and the forecast warnings issued. Families abroad should rely on official channels, not social media, for names.
