London - Renowned mountaineer Hari Budha Magar is just one peak away from rewriting mountaineering history. With Antarctica’s Mount Vinson (4,892m) left to climb, Magar stands on the brink of becoming the world’s first double above-knee amputee to summit all Seven Summits—the highest mountains on each continent, The Everest News reported.
Magar and his expedition team are set to begin their journey on December 26, marking the final phase of a remarkable global campaign that has already inspired millions around the world.
The Mount Vinson expedition will be led by Jangbu Sherpa, an IFMGA/NNMGA-certified guide and expedition leader, with international guiding company Alpine Ascents overseeing logistics and operations.
The team also includes Mingma Sherpa as Magar’s personal assistant guide, and Abiral Rai, an IFMGA-certified guide and expedition cameraman, who will document the historic climb.
More than a mountaineering milestone, Hari Budha Magar’s Seven Summits journey carries a powerful message of inclusion and possibility.
Through his climbs, he aims to raise awareness about disability, challenge long-held social perceptions, and encourage people everywhere to “climb their own mountains”—no matter the obstacles they face.
If successful on Mount Vinson, Magar will secure a permanent place in global mountaineering history, not only for his extraordinary physical achievement but also for redefining what is possible through resilience, determination, and belief, the news report said.
In 2017, Magar became the first double above-knee amputee to summit a mountain taller than 6,000m (Mera Peak, 6,476m). Then, on May 19, 2023, he achieved the record of being the first ever double above-knee amputee to summit the world's tallest mountain, Mount Everest (8,848m).
