London – At least four Nepalis were among who died due to the massive fire that engulfed a night club in the popular tourist spot of Goa, India on early hours of Sunday, reports said.
Hindustan Times newspaper reported that all the 25 victims killed in the Goa nightclub fire tragedy have been identified, including 20 staff members and five tourists.
All four Nepalis who were killed worked at the 'Birch by Romeo Lane' nightclub at Arpora, reports said.
In a message posted on social media, Nepal’s ambassador to India, Dr Shankar P Sharma, confirmed that four Nepali nationals were among the 25 people who lost their lives in the Goa fire incident. “We are working to reach out to their family members in Nepal,” he said.
Among the five tourists who died in the inferno, four were from Delhi, including three members of a single family. The fifth tourist was from Karnataka.
State police said the blaze was triggered by a cylinder blast at the nightclub after midnight on Sunday.
The nightclub is situated along the backwaters of the Arpora river and has a narrow entry and exit. Due to the narrow lanes leading to the venue, fire tenders were unable to access the spot directly and had to be parked about 400 metres away, reports said.
