Five Nepali People Back Home After Being Held in Iran

KATHMANDU, NEPAL – Five Nepali individuals who were in prisons in Iran have now returned safely to Nepal. They arrived on Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed on Friday. An Iranian court ordered their release. Nepal's local office in Tehran and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) helped them get back home. These five people had been put in jail while travelling to another country.

Their return to Kathmandu on Thursday is part of a bigger effort to help Nepali people caught in difficult situations abroad.

Before this, nine other Nepali people living in Iran were also helped to return home through a special effort by India. This effort, called "Operation Sindhu," was started by India to bring its own citizens back during the recent conflict between Iran and Israel. That conflict began on June 13 and a ceasefire was agreed on June 23. Nepal had officially asked India for help to rescue its citizens stuck in Iran. All the Nepali people were brought out in three groups and came back safely by land through India.

During the troubled time, Nepal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs worked closely with its offices in Tehran, Tel Aviv, and Doha. They regularly gave advice and safety updates to make sure Nepali citizens in the area were safe.

The ministry shared that the security in both Iran and Israel has now slowly become stable since the ceasefire. Life is gradually going back to normal in those areas.
