Five Foreigners, Two Nepalis killed in Avalanche

Kathmandu – Nepali officials have said five foreign nationals and two Nepali citizens have been buried by an avalanche that struck near the base camp of Yalung Ri Mountain in Rolwaling, Gaurishankar Rural Municipality-9, Dolakha district, on Sunday morning.

Those killed include two Italians, a Canadian, a German, a French national, and two Nepalis who served as guides, BBC Nepali reported quoting Police. Eight others have been rescued and are in the capital Kathmandu getting treatment for their injuries.

According to Police,  the team was hit by the avalanche at around 9 a.m. while heading toward Yalung Ri, part of the Gaurishankar and Rolwaling mountain range.

Security agencies, including  Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force, have been mobilized for search and rescue operations, officials said.
