Dashain reaches Fulpati as Nepal's festival holiday begins in flood recovery year

Nepal marks Fulpati, the seventh day of Bada Dashain, on Saturday 17 October, when sacred flowers and plants are brought into homes. The public holiday runs from 17 to 23 October, with tika on Wednesday 21 October and Kojagrat Purnima on 25 October, according to a festival-calendar guide that follows the official dates (the exact timing is set by Nepal's calendar authority). More than 348,000 people left the Kathmandu Valley between 11 and 16 October.

Nepal's digital wallets will allow up to 50 daily transactions, up from 10, from 17 to 25 October. This Dashain follows the August and October floods, and the former king's message, as reported, urged unity and prioritised flood reconstruction. For Nepali families in the UK, the dates matter for community tika gatherings, remittances sent before the holiday, and relatives travelling home.
