KATHMANDU — With the Dashain festival season underway, a significant exodus of people from the Kathmandu Valley is now well in motion.
The traditional rush of holidaymakers has been observed at major transport hubs across the capital, including Gangabu Bus Park, Koteshwor, and Kalanki.
According to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, a substantial number of individuals have already departed the Valley in recent days.
Data from the Office's Spokesperson, SP Naresh Subedi, indicates that over 138,000 people had left the Valley since Ghatasthapana, the first day of the festival, with more than 13,000 leaving on a single day. This number is expected to continue rising.
The National Federation of Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs has confirmed that while advance ticket bookings were not available this year, a policy allowing passengers to purchase tickets a day in advance has been implemented.
This has contributed to the notable congestion at bus parks as people queue for tickets.
Travellers are also facing challenges due to frequent landslides on major highways, particularly those in western Nepal.
This has caused delays and forced many to monitor road conditions closely to avoid being stranded.
The traffic police and transport federations are working to manage the flow of people and vehicles amidst these obstacles, ensuring a safer journey for those heading to their hometowns.
