Kathmandu: Bhai Tika is being observed on Thursday (23rd October) – fifth day of Yam Panchak, as part of the Tihar festival.
On the day of Bhai Tika, sisters adorn their brothers with seven-colored tika, praying for their longevity, health, and prosperity.
Following the sisters' application of tika on their brothers, the brothers reciprocate by placing tika on their sisters.
Meanwhile, for those who lack sisters, a sacred tradition unfolds on this day, wherein the Balgopaleshwar Temple, nestled in the heart of Rani Pokhari in Kathmandu, is opened. This hallowed temple graces the world with its presence only once a year on this auspicious occasion. On the day of Bhai Tika, individuals without brothers or sisters visit this revered site to engage in worship, seek darshan, and receive the sacred tika, RSS news agency reported.
Bhai Tika is being observed as ‘Bhaiya Duj’ in Mithila region of Nepal and India, reports said.
Mha Puja observed
On Wednesday, members of the Newa community within Nepal and around the world observed Mha Puja (self worship). It also falls on the Newa New Year which is based on the Newar calendar, Nepal Sambat. Mha Puja literally refers to self worship, making offerings to one’s body.
New Year 1146 is being observed with fanfare across the country. The Newari calendar is marked in memory of Sankhadhar Sakhwa, who freed the poor and peasants from financial burden.
