London –Yet another heartbreaking visa fraud case has come to light in the British-Nepali community. Several Nepalis have been cheated with the familiar promise: “I will arrange a sponsor visa for you and bring you to the UK.”
One of the victims, Bishnu Bhatt, took to social media to share his ordeal and later spoke in detail with NepalUK.com. He revealed that a man originally from Nepalgunj, who now lives in Birmingham, used fake job offers and forged documents to extract money from three Nepali citizens over a period of nearly two years.
In his own words, Bishnu Bhatt said: “For almost two years this individual kept showing us fake jobs, fake company letters and fake bank statements, claiming the visa process was underway. We kept sending money in instalments. For the past year he has been giving excuses, saying ‘I will return the money soon’, but now he has completely vanished – he doesn’t pick up calls, has blocked us on WhatsApp and all other platforms, and is nowhere to be found.”
According to the victims, a total of 84 lakh Nepali rupees was handed over to the fraudster by the three affected individuals.
Bishnu confirmed that he has preserved every single piece of evidence – bank transfer receipts, WhatsApp conversations, voice notes, the fake bank statements sent by the scammer, forged job offer letters, and emails. Armed with this documentation, the victims have now formally started legal proceedings in the UK and are preparing to lodge a criminal complaint.
The victims say the scammer’s method was highly organised: he produced completely fabricated bank statements, fake sponsor licence details, and bogus employment contracts to convince people that a genuine Skilled Worker visa application was in progress.
The affected individuals have urged the wider Nepali community in the UK to remain extremely vigilant and have appealed for help in identifying the perpetrator so that proper action can be taken.
They issued a strong public message: “We are sharing our painful experience so that no one else falls into this trap. Please do not trust anyone who simply says ‘I will get you a sponsor visa’. Always verify the company’s sponsor licence directly on the official UK government website. Never send large sums of money without taking advice from a registered immigration solicitor or a reputable agent. If you recognise this person or have been cheated by him, please come forward – together we can stop him from harming more families.”
Unfortunately, this is only the latest in a long series of similar frauds that have targeted Nepalis hoping to settle in the UK. Fake “care-home visas”, “restaurant jobs” and “farm-worker visas” have already cost the community crores of rupees in recent years.
The victims have already reported the matter to Action Fraud (the UK’s national fraud and cyber-crime reporting centre) and are in touch with the police. Their relatives in Nepal are also pressuring the scammer’s family to cooperate.
