Kathmandu- Four members of a family, including a teenage wife, were tragically murdered in Dhodlekhani of Ramprasadrai Rural Municipality-2, Bhojpur District, early Sunday morning.

Police suspect 30-year-old Rajendra Rai of Bhojpur Municipality-2 is responsible for the killings, which reportedly stemmed from a family dispute.

According to Bhojpur District Police, the victims have been identified as Rai's 16-year-old wife, Manisha Rai (also identified as Manisha Giri); her 68-year-old father, Bel Bahadur Giri; her 45-year-old mother, Manju Giri; and her nine-year-old brother, Sapan Giri. The horrific incident occurred around 1:15 AM on Sunday.

Police Inspector Deepak Shrestha of the District Police Office, Bhojpur, said that the accused, Rajendra Rai, himself contacted the police control room at 1:15 AM to confess to the crime.

Rai was also found with a deep abdominal injury at the scene. He was initially taken to the district hospital and has since been referred for further treatment due to the severity of his wounds.

Chief District Officer Suresh Panthi confirmed the incident, saying that Rajendra Rai allegedly murdered his wife and three other members of her paternal home.

Neighbours reported that Manisha had returned to her paternal home a few days prior to the incident. Rai had reportedly gone there to bring her back, which is when the dispute is believed to have escalated into multiple murders.

Police teams arrived at the scene shortly after being alerted late in the night. The cause of the dispute remains under investigation, with officials stating that further enquiries are underway.
