London:- A Nepali student has passed away in his sleep in London.
The deceased has been identified as Yoman Chand, a resident of Darma Rural Municipality–4 (formerly Bhalkchour VDC–7) in Salyan district, who had arrived in the UK just a year ago for higher studies. According to his roommate, Yoman passed away at around 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday in Edgware, London.
The 26-year-old was pursuing an MSc in Communications and Information Engineering at the University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield. He had completed his studies and was preparing to receive his graduation certificate.
According to his roommate, Yoman had said on Monday that he was not feeling very well. When his roommate found him unconscious, he immediately called an ambulance. The medical team arrived and declared him dead at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
The medical team informed the police, and the police later handed the case over to the CID, who have categorized it as a “natural death.”
Rajendra Pudasaini, President of NRNA UK, who reached the site, said that arrangements for the funeral will be made in consultation with late Yoman’s family, university, and his friends.
“Nepali students coming from Nepal are facing various challenges here including accommodation, jobs, mental health, and safety. There is an urgent need to raise awareness among them, and we all must work together to address these problems,” he said.
Khamir Jung Gurung, President of the Burnt Oak Nepali Society, along with other community members, expressed their commitment to provide all possible assistance.
In a similar incident last July, 20-year-old Sujal Baral, a bachelor’s student at the University of West London, was found dead at the bottom of a cliff — about 500 meters below — near Beachy Head, Sussex.
There have been incidences of Nepali students committing suicide as well.
