Islamabad - At least 12 people were killed while 27 people were injured on Tuesday in a suicide blast outside the district and sessions court building in Islamabad’s G-11 area, reports said.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi told reporters outside the court that a “suicide blast” had occurred at 12:39pm.
Confirming the death and injury toll, the interior minister said that the wounded were being provided medical treatment.
“The attacker stood outside the court for around 12 minutes. He first attempted to go inside the court, but then targeted the police vehicle after he was unable to do so,” Naqvi said.
He added that an investigation was underway and identifying the attacker was a top priority. “I assure you we will identify him in the next few hours,” he said.
“We are investigating this incident from different angles. It is not just another bombing. It happened right in Islamabad,” the minister said.
He said that the Army, Rangers and police would ensure the security of international events being hosted in the capital would not be compromised.
Meanwhile, security around the Judicial Complex, adjoining courts, and other sensitive buildings in Islamabad has been further tightened, police officials told the state-run Associated Press of Pakistan (APP).
Bomb Blast in Delhi
Bomb explosion in Islamabad came just a day after a car bomb explosion in the Indian capital Delhi in which at least 13 people have been killed.
Nobody has claimed responsibility for the explosion but police are suspecting it to be a terror act, reports said.
In a message posted on social media, Nepal’s interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki said, “I am shocked and saddened by the tragic Delhi explosion last evening. Deepest condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured. Nepal stands in solidarity with India in this hour of grief.
